How do you even buy bees???

Updated: Nov 13, 2019

You order them online of course! (Please note there are other ways to buy bees, I just didn't know it at the time.) So for Christmas 2018 I ordered bees for my man. I googled best bee company and read the reviews. I had no clue what I was doing. Also I was on a break at work so I had like 15 minutes. (A stab in the dark? Blind luck? Divine intervention??? Yes, yes, and YES!!!)

Here is a description of bees I bought:

3 lbs. ITALIAN Bee Package

Our bee packages are grown here in Georgia. The bee package includes a screen box, sugar water container, approx. 3 lbs. of bees which include nurse bees, forager bees, guard bees, and drone bees. The queen bee will be in a queen cage.

I wrapped up the receipt with some bee stuff and made a big deal of “his” present. We waited a long time for bees! We waited until April in fact. That was a LONG wait… I think I may have forgotten about the bees for a while. In the meantime one of us read BeeKeeping for Dummies along with every website out there to learn about bees, the other absorbed bee info through osmosis.

Also I confused the shipping date with the arrival date so we were on pins and needles for a few days before the actual arrival. The post office isn’t crazy about dealing with bees in case you were wondering. We (Jimmy) had to go pick them up. They arrived in a box made mostly of screen with a little bit of wood. We let them stay in there most of the day.
